Join the Celebration of Red Ribbon Week
Love Bugs Not Drugs

Welcome

October 23-31, 2004

Join California Farm Bureau Federation’s efforts to keep America’s youth drug-free. Do your part by ordering your complimentary 500 wristbands that are now available through the CFBF Rural Health and Safety program. Reinforce the message of Red Ribbon Week, creating a drug- free America, by supplying schools in your county with these bands.

Due to the positive responses to last year’s red wristbands, CFBF will continue the same idea, bearing the anti-drug message of “Love Bugs not Drugs”. We also have bands available from last year bearing the message of “Knock Out Drugs”. These bands are a safe, effective way to spread the message. Bands remove the hassle of safety pins and the tendency to forget your ribbon. Students and adults can wear these ribbon-like bands throughout the week with little concern of it falling off or being forgotten.

Your county can receive 500 bands free by just submitting your order today! Additional wristbands are available for 4¢ each, no minimum order required. All orders must be received by October 1 to insure availability and timely arrival. After October 1, wristbands are limited to stock on hand.

CFBF has provided your county office of education contact information below. Please take this opportunity to forge a partnership with your local county education department. We encourage you to contact that office to discuss how your complimentary wristbands can be distributed or how they may purchase additional bands. Your county may be interested in sponsoring bands for local school children to help spread the message. Many county education offices have systems in place to effectively distribute such materials. This is also an opportunity to create another valuable contact within your community for support of future Farm Bureau activities. Be sure to contact your local FFA departments, 4-H groups, and other businesses in your area to help spread this important message.

Please contact the Leadership Development Division of CFBF with questions at

Thank you!

History

In 1985, Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarea was brutally tortured and killed by the drug cartel in Mexico. Angry citizens began wearing red ribbons to honor his efforts to halt illegal drug activity.

Spurred by that tragedy, the Red Ribbon Week campaign is now a rallying point for concerned citizens who want to keep America’s youth drug-free.

Community organizations continue to wear the ribbons to reinforce the message to youth and adults that drugs in our society will not be tolerated.

In this time of worldly unrest, let’s renew our commitment to our children.
